5 Points to Consider For Commercial Car Wash Signage

October 2, 2015 Car Wash Marketing, Car Wash Tips

As a roadside business, car wash owners and operators must be sure that their facilities stand out and grab the attention of potential customers driving by. While the design of the building should play a significant part in this process, it is the signage that clearly and unmistakably broadcasts the car wash’s identity, service, and value.

Therefore owners and developers should always pay attention to these five points when it comes to developing attractive and effective facility signage for car wash renovations or new construction.

1. Is it Clearly Visible?

Car wash signage should be oriented towards the nearest major road and should be sized according to the speed of the passing traffic, the available building frontage, and the total distance between the sign and the furthest traffic lane. Larger and higher signs are advised for faster or more distant traffic in order to maximize visibility, but signage should never overwhelm the facility it is mounted on.

2. Is it Modern?

As car washes age the letter boards and neon that they were advertised with in decades back ages with them. Fresh, new car washes with 21st century flair should take advantage of modern signage technology, including Electronic Message Centers and powerful LED technology.

3. Is it Clearly Illuminated?

Don’t discount the importance of early morning and late night customers and commuters. Lighting matters, so make sure that your wash looks even better in the dark with high quality illumination that highlights the colors and brand behind your sign. Bonus points if your wash features full-length windows and floodlights for extra effect.

4. Set for Easy City Approval?

Cities approve commercial signage and regulate signage type, style, and size much like any other aspect of local construction. In order to install or replace a sign the correct forms and permits must be filed and the services of a licensed sign contractor may be required. Any issues or complications may delay this process significantly, so be 100% sure the proposed sign is above board from the start.

5. Is it Memorable?

When customers drive past your building, will they remember it? Will the encounter, no matter how brief, stand out in their mind? Will they recall your carwash and think about coming back the next time their car gets dirty?

Having the right sign to embody and transmit your wash’s brand is absolutely vital. Every factor from lighting, to dimensional effects, to typography, to color, needs to be just right. And when it is, the payoff can be huge. Remember, your customers are exposed to advertising via the internet, newspaper, TV, radio, billboards, and storefronts all day. Breaking through that metal static and capturing their attention can be difficult, so make sure your wash and the signs highlighting it are up to the challenge.
