Tommy Car Wash Systems is proud to announce our sponsorship of the Holland Christian High School FIRST Tech Challenge Team 107, also known as Team R.O.B.O.T.I.C.S.

Since 1989 FIRST, a nonprofit program for school-aged youth, has inspired early interest and participation in science and technology, motivating students to pursue education and career opportunities the science fields. In the 2015-2016 season over 51,000 participants (ages 12-18) in over 5,100 teams will participate in the challenge, many receiving access to special scholarships and other educational opportunities.

As part of the FIRST Tech Challenge, 10+ members of Team R.O.B.O.T.I.C.S. will be designing, programming, and operating a robot designed for 2 on 2 competitions in a floor-game challenge.  This year the challenge, FIRST RES-Q, is modeled after rescue situations commonly faced by mountain explorers. Robots will score points by activating beacons, delivering figures to a bucket shelter, parking on a steep mountain-side incline, and clearing debris from the play area floor.

With dramatically different challenges each year, participants in the FIRST Tech Challenge are forced to improvise and invent, coming up with novel solutions as they explore practical concepts in fields ranging from engineering, to programming, to electronics, and more.

Team 107, founded 1997, has had a distinguished history, with numerous awards and accomplishments. Most recently, Team R.O.B.O.T.I.C.S. won the 2015 West Michigan Robotics Invitational, placing in the top group out of 32 total teams. Tommy Car Wash Systems is excited to see what the future holds for Team 107 and wholeheartedly supports the team’s core values of gracious professionalism, teamwork, learning, and 100% student participation.
